The difference between a feature and a feeling

A practical look at designing products people understand before they read the copy.

A feature says what a product can do. A feeling tells someone whether it is for them, whether they trust it and whether they want to keep using it.

Useful products need both. A check-in app is not only a notification system; it should feel calm, respectful and easy to respond to. A certification product is not only a badge; it should feel credible, clear and earned.

That is why tone, layout, naming and interaction detail matter. People understand products through the small signals around the feature as much as the feature itself.
